Often referred to as the City of Love and the City of Lights, Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. There is a whole world to see and explore and we are here to help you decide what wonders of Paris you should dedicate your time to, as well as inform you about what you can expect.
The Sites
The Eiffel Tower
One of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, the Eiffel Tower is practically synonymous with Paris. The building was originally designed to be the tallest in the world. You can visit restaurants and shops, but if you want to truly experience the beauty of the tower, you should see the view at night.
The Louvre
One of the most famous, if not the most famous, museum in the world. The lines are unbelievable but well worth the effort. You will find it in Rue de Rivoli and, depending on your level of luck, you can get to see the famous Mona Lisa, arguably the most famous painting.
Musée d’Orsay
If you are a fan of Impressionist art, this site should be on your must-see list. You can find paintings by Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Monet. Do not bring your bags with you, as you may not be allowed in. Security has been increased ever since the attack in 2015.
The Accommodations
Paris is divided into neighborhoods. Each neighborhood, or arrondissement, has its own set of attractions, so it would be wise to plan your stay with regard to the proximity of the sites. For example, you will find Champs-Élysées, the most recognized avenue in the world, in the 8th arrondissement, so you may want to book a bed in Adveniat Paris. This is just an example, but you get a general idea.
When to Visit
Most of the locations are pretty crowded, so your preference should revolve around the weather and the expenses. While Paris is a popular destination all year round, most of the visitors arrive in summer. If you want to enjoy the nice weather, but still avoid the big tourist rush, going in fall is your best option. On the other hand, if you are not bothered by the prospect of being wet and cold, you can always try spring. That way, you can see Paris in all its glory and manage to see some sites.
The Food
Paris, like the rest of France, is famous for its culinary marvels. In the morning, any time before 10 am, you can find the softest and warmest baked goods you have ever tasted. Bistros can be pricey, but the food there is not only exquisite but also amazing to look at.
Dining is an experience and an adventure, so take your time with your meals.
Interacting with the Locals
There is a stereotype that the French, and especially the waiters, are rude. Nothing could be further from the truth – they just communicate in a different manner. Just remain polite and formal, and you’ll have them eating out of your hand.
In terms of language usage, try to learn French. If you don’t have the time to do so, stick with English. Other languages you may use to find some common grounds are Spanish, Italian, and German. Do not be frustrated if you cannot understand the people – France is a boiling pot of different cultures and ethnicities, so there are countless dialects.
